PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID (PFA) 2: PRACTICAL APPLICATION TRAINING

Description

This class follows the World Health Organisation’s PFA training model and builds on the material presented in the prerequisite Psychological First Aid (PFA) Awareness training. This class makes use of role playing scenarios so that the students can observe, practise, and critique PFA skills.

Objectives

Create an understanding and situational awareness of:

  1. What PFA is and is not
  2. Place of PFA in overall response
  3. Who, When and Where of PFA
  4. Action principles: Prepare, Look, Listen and Link
  5. Good communication skills
  6. People who likely need special attention
  7. Adapting PFA to the local context
  8. Caring for yourself and your team members

Prerequisites

Experienced volunteers in a client facing role who have completed Psychological First Aid (PFA) 1: Awareness Training
